The dinner speaker is Mike McCoy who will be presenting a program on “Fly Fishing  for Surf Perch”. Since we don’t live too far from the ocean ‘as the crow flies’ this would give a club fly fisher an opportunity to try something a little different than the usual freshwater pursuit.

McCoy’s program will include ‘what flies to use’, ‘casting and wading techniques and what to avoid’. He’ll also include rod and line recommendations. Once you are geared up, McCoy will include a section on ‘Scouting, how to find surf perch in Oregon, water types and tidal effects for scouting and fishing’. Along with all of this will be a section on safe wading in Oregon’s tumultuous coastal conditions. Finally, and probably just a shade less important than safe wading, is the care of your rods, reels, and lines after a day in the surf. As a saft water fly fisher myself, the corrosive effect of salt on your equipment can not be overstated. Mike McCoy’s presentation should an interesting, particularly if you see yourself out in the surf and one not to be missed.
