5:30pm SOFF Dinner Meeting with presentation by Jack Trout

January 15, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Jack Trout

Born and raised in Portola California, Jack grew up fly fishing with his dad on Northern California rivers all his life. Known historian & fly fishing guide/outfitter for the past 25 years, we hope you enjoy his program on the McCloud Rainbow and it’s entire history including the mysterious fishing clubs on the McCloud River and the Hearst Castle. This will not be just another program on trout porn, but a night to go back in time and learn about the hatcheries at Baird California and Clackamas, Oregon. as well as the distribution worldwide and nationwide of the McCloud river rainbow trout or as known back East as the “California Mountain Trout.”

See rare books, diagrams and maps that go back to 1872 as well as photographs and Government reports I collected over the years, formally working at the clubs as a guide and a host. Learn about the the extirpated Bull Trout & never heard of before my research – Stone Trout, named after Livingston Stone that went extinct years ago but at one time was the most prolific trout that lived in the McCloud river.
