SOFF Dinner Meeting featuring Gary Lewis – Fly Fishing the Cutthroat Slam

Gary Lewis is an outdoor writer, speaker, photographer and TV host who makes his home in Central Oregon. He has hunted and fished in seven countries and across the United States. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, he has been walking forest trails and running rivers for as long as he can remember. He is twice past president of the Northwest Outdoor Writers Association (NOWA) and was recently presented with NOWA’s prestigious Enos Bradner Award.
Lewis is a columnist for The Bend Bulletin, a Contributing Editor for Successful Hunter magazine and a humor columnist for Bear Hunting magazine and a regular contributor for many other magazines and newspapers.
Gary is host of Frontier Unlimited, a TV show is also the author of 15 books. Titles include Fishing Mount Hood Country, A Bear Hunter’s Guide to the Universe, Gary Lewis’s Hunting Oregon, Oregon Lake Maps and Fishing Guide, Idaho River Maps and Fishing Guide, John Nosler – Going Ballistic, Deer Hunting Tactics for Today’s Big Game Hunter, Freshwater Fishing Oregon & Washington, Sun Publishing’s Hunting Oregon. Lewis contributed to the fifth edition of Fishing Central Oregon and Beyond. Lewis coauthored Creative Publishing International’s Black Bear Hunting with Lee Van Tassell. In 2008, CPI published Lewis’ The Complete Guide to Hunting and Trout Fishing in the Pacific Northwest.
Many of his books have won NOWA’s Excellence in Craft awards and he has received numerous awards for his newspaper columns and magazine articles. His stories have appeared in Covey Rise, Sports Afield, American Handgunner, Bear Hunting, Cabela’s Outfitter Journal, Rifle, Successful Hunter, African Hunting Gazette, Boating Sportsman, Houseboat, Traditional Bowhunter, Mule Deer Foundation, African Hunter, Flyfishing and Tying Journal, Game & Fish magazines, Oregon Hunter, Salmon Trout Steelheader and more.
Gary, through his association with other outdoor writers, met long-time writer Ed Park, a frequent contributor to Outdoor Life, Field and Stream, Sports Afield and other publications. Lewis and Park were good friends from 1999 through 2008, when Ed Park passed away. Lewis counts Ed Park, Bob Nosler and John Nosler as his mentors.
Gary’s lives in Central Oregon with his wife and three camo-clad daughters.
