Proposed Outing for Rogue River Salmon Fly Hatch

I believe it has been a while since we have done an outing for the salmon fly hatch on the Rogue River.
I would like those who would like to fish that hatch this year to join me at Casey Park (up highway 62 past the Trail Market) at 9am.

I recommend a 6 or 5 weight rod with a weight forward line as we will be throwing very large bugs for
large fish. Leaders should be 9-foot 2x or 3x as the strikes and be vicious.

This will a be a “from shore” walk and wade trip and we should be casting along shore unless the water is high again this year.

We can break for lunch at 1pm and get burritos and tacos at the Trail Market. Breakfast burritos can also be had when you drive up to meet me at Casey Park.

We should break off in groups of 2 and fish shorelines from Casey all the way up to Lost Creek Dam (Holy Water, barbless hooks and catch and release only on that section of river).

For those that want to fish after lunch we can go back up around 2ish and begin again.

I will try to have a simple map for folks to use too. Flies can be bought at local shops and Sportsman’s Warehouse.

Adult Salmon flies will be needed and some dropper nymphs too. For those tiers, you can find the three dry’s I use on the Southern Oregon Fly Tyers website under Dave McCants. Video’s to follow shortly.
